— this arrangement option is found in the units of the classic layout, as well as in the models of the French door format (see "Product type"). Both there and there, it is considered more convenient in terms of access specifically to the freezer, but less convenient in terms of general use of the refrigerator. This is because the freezer is more or less at eye level, while to access the main compartment you have to bend over — and it is with this compartment, usually, that you have to deal with most often. In addition, the top freezers are not equipped with drawers: they are either divided into levels using the simplest shelves, or they do not have such a division at all. For some users, this point may be fundamental. In light of all this, it makes sense to pay attention to refrigerators from this category in two cases: if you plan to use the freezer often or if you are purchasing a large and tall refrigerator, where access to most of the main volume will also not be difficult.

A special case is a classic refrigerator of small size and capacity, where there is only one door, and the freezer is installed inside the main chamber and is covered with its own inner door. Such models use only the top location of the freezer, and for the next reason: if it were from below, it would be quite inconvenient to bend over for access — it would be wiser to install shelves or drawers in the main chamber at the bottom.
