Rims for tubeless tyres usually have a low side and characteristic walls with indentations that form a kind of lock - the tyre cord gets jammed in it when air is pumped. In the inflated state, a reliable “fit” of the rubber on the rim is ensured without the risk of it falling off the wheel, even at low pressure. The lack of a tube reduces weight, and most punctures can be “healed” without removing the tyre. However, installing tubeless tyres is quite a troublesome task: such products are only compatible with the aforementioned specially shaped rims, and after installation, the joint must be treated with adhesive sealant to prevent air leaks.
