— the toughest gauge for extreme scenarios: heavy e-bikes, cargo bikes, and high-torque fat bikes. They build into a very stiff wheel and handle impact/torque spikes extremely well, but add noticeable weight to the build, damp vibrations less, and require rims/hubs for larger nipple diameters. Compared to 13G, they offer even more strength margin but lose out in comfort and compatibility; versus 14G the difference is drastic: 12G is about being bombproof, 14G is about balancing weight and compliance.
