So the detachable mount design is provided not only for ease of storage and transportation, but also for the convenience of playing on a device that is not a smartphone.
Built-in fastenings (see the relevant paragraph) of a folding design have a similar meaning. Removable mounts are somewhat less convenient, and therefore are less common. However, they also have their advantages: by moving the latch outside the main body of the gamepad, you can free up additional space in it and reduce weight or provide more advanced equipment (for example, a more capacious battery).
