Mercury lamp projectors
Mercury lamps
— high-pressure mercury lamps are a "classic of the genre" that has not lost popularity to this day. Such a light source is a flask filled with mercury vapor and coated from the inside with a phosphor; Due to the electric discharge in the flask, the phosphor glows. Mercury lamps are functional, easy to replace and provide high brightness, sufficient even for fairly powerful and "long-range" projectors. The spectrum of their glow is somewhat uneven, but this is corrected by using simple filters. But among the unambiguous shortcomings, one can name strong heating during operation, which is why projectors with such lamps have to be equipped with cooling systems — this, in turn, affects the dimensions, price and noise level. In addition, mercury lamps are environmentally unsafe: they require special disposal, and a broken lamp can be harmful to health (due to mercury vapor).Show
