Operating system
— the operating system (OS) is the software environment in which all other software installed on the computer runs. The presence of an OS is mandatory; without it, the computer simply will not be able to fully function. A modern "OS" necessarily has a graphical interface, and is also equipped with an extensive set of built-in tools: a web browser, a multimedia player, an image viewer, sometimes the simplest graphic and video editors, etc. The most popular OS family today is Windows, the same systems are most often sold as separate software products (other popular desktop OSes are distributed mainly in other ways).Show
