Solar battery

— the integrated panel charges the scope's electronics using solar or bright diffused light. It is most often used to power the reticle illumination, helping to conserve the standard battery life or even operate without it in good lighting conditions. On a bright day, a scope with a solar panel automatically maintains illumination, and during twilight or indoors, it switches to battery power, ensuring the shooter is not "left in the dark." Compared to models where illumination only works from batteries, such scopes are less dependent on battery reserves and are less likely to fail during extended hunts or training sessions. This is especially convenient in dynamic shooting and long outings when a solar-powered scope reliably maintains the dot illumination as long as there is at least a little light around.
