As of mid-2020, the newest version is the Xbox One (specifically, the updated Xbox One X, which notably added virtual reality support). The release of the next model, Xbox Series X, is expected at the end of the year.
Games for Xbox are distributed both on discs and through the official online store. Official gamepads (including wireless ones that require a special station for charging—see "Type") are used as the main game controllers. Additionally, back in 2009, the Kinect motion sensor was introduced, tracking the player's movements directly and not requiring them to hold additional items. Other types of controllers, including virtual reality glasses, are produced by third-party manufacturers.
