PlayStation
— a series of game consoles from Sony. Includes mainly desktop models, although there are also portable devices — PS Portable and PS Vita. For some time, Microsoft's Xbox consoles were the direct competitor of the line, in recent years Wii U and Switch from Nintendo have been added to this list.The PlayStation desktop line has been in production since 1995. The very first model was so successful that it was produced for 11 years; and in 2018, its "reissue" was released with a pre-installed set of the most popular games. Subsequent versions were (and still are) very successful. As of mid-2020, the newest console in the series is the PS4; the PS5 release, originally scheduled for later that year, has been delayed indefinitely.
Games for modern PS are distributed both on discs and through the company's online store. The traditional game controller for this series of consoles is the DualShock gamepad; it can be both wired and wireless, in the latter case, special stations can be used for charging (see "Type"). Also included in the range of "native" accessories are the PS Move motion controller and PlayStation VR virtual reality glasses. Third-party manufacturers also produce other types of manipulators, in particular, steering wheels and pedals.
