True to its name, this model is a further development and improvement of the advanced desktop console PlayStation 4, modified to meet the top class for the fall of 2016. One of the most striking practical differences from its predecessor was support for 4K video; this became possible primarily due to a new video accelerator with an almost 2.5-fold increase in performance. Processor — also improved, although of the same family — AMD Jaguar; this allowed to keep the amount of RAM at 8 GB.

The term Slim in the name describes one of the key differences from the original Playstation 4 — a thinner and more compact body. However, there is no fundamental difference between this model and its predecessor. Thus, the Sony PlayStation 4 Slim gaming console has received wireless modules Wi-Fi ac and Bluetooth 4.0, the processor has become somewhat more powerful, yet the RAM volume and graphics card performance remain unchanged — which, however, are quite sufficient for FullHD games with high detail.

An update to the Xbox One line, released in 2016, with the expectation that Microsoft's desktop consoles "keep up with the times." The body has become smaller and sleeker. The hardware received a more powerful processor and video accelerator, thanks to which the maximum video resolution in the Microsoft Xbox One S game console reaches 4K (and the game “picture” can be upscaled to this resolution). And to improve colour reproduction and detail, the HDR function is useful. Connection interfaces are notable for the presence of two HDMI ports — output and input — as well as an IR output for remote control of other equipment.
