Such a connection is notable for its complete insensitivity to electrical interference (which compares favorably with another version of the same interface — coaxial, see the relevant paragraph). However, optical fibre also has a drawback: the connecting cable is quite delicate and can be damaged if it is sharply bent or pressed hard.
