Trimmers with top engine
Engine top
— location of the engine in the upper (rear) part of the trimmer bar. This arrangement is considered optimal for tools with medium and high power engines, both gasoline and electric; a different arrangement of the engine in such models is practically never found. In addition, there are relatively low-power units of a similar design.During operation, the upper part of the trimmer moves with a relatively small amplitude (much less than the "swing" of the lower part with a working nozzle). Thus, it is best to install a more or less powerful and heavy engine from above — the inertia from such a "ballast" will be relatively small and will not interfere with the operator's work. In addition, the spacing of the engine and nozzle on different sides of the bar balances the design, especially when held on the shoulder strap — which is also important in terms of convenience. The disadvantage of the upper installation of the engine is that to transfer the rotation to the nozzle, you have to use a long rod, which complicates and increases the cost of the design. However, this drawback is more than offset by the advantages described above, and in most modern trimmers, the engine is located precisely in the upper part.
