Whiskey stones

— special stones, originally intended for cooling whiskey and other drinks, both alcoholic and non-alcoholic (cocktails, lemonades, etc.). Ice is used for similar purposes, but stones have two serious advantages over it. Firstly, they do not dissolve when heated, do not dilute the contents of the glass, and the saturation of the drink remains unchanged. Second, ice has a temperature of 0°C or lower, which is not always desirable; stones can be cooled to any chosen temperature, and even heated for use with hot coffee or tea.

The material from which whiskey stones are made must meet two criteria: resistance to dissolution and high heat capacity. Soapstone, or “soapstone” is considered a “classic of the genre” in this regard: it does not react even with strong acids and keeps the temperature perfectly. In addition, there are other options — including "stones" made of high-quality stainless steel.
