It is these forks that can be almost guaranteed to be found in any home kitchen, and in an informal setting they are often used for any dishes — hot and cold appetizers, meat, fish, pies, even desserts. However, according to formal etiquette, the main purpose of the dinner fork is still hot main courses. This is one of the largest forks used as individual appliances — the standard length should be slightly less than the diameter of a dinner plate.
