Scotland Yard board games
— a detective game with a rather non-standard distribution of roles: one of the players takes on the role of the criminal "Mr. X", the rest — the role of Scotland Yard detectives. Initially, the game is designed for the number of participants from 3 to 6, but you can also play together — one player for the criminal, the second for several detectives at once. The playing field is a stylized map of London with public transport routes: metro, buses, taxis and water trams. Detectives receive a certain number of tickets for different types of transport, each ticket entitles them to 1 move. Mr. X, in addition to the standard ones, receives several black (universal) and double (two-move) tickets. The task of the detectives is to catch the villain, being with him at the same point; Mister X's goal is to stay uncaught for 24 turns. The position of the detectives on the map is indicated by chips that are constantly on the field, but Mr. X's chip is "lit up" only periodically — first on the 3rd move from the beginning of the game, and then on every 5th. In addition, Mr. X's tickets are removed from the game after being used, but the tickets used by the detectives are transferred to him. The set of the game includes a cap that Mr. X must wear, it has a very practical purpose: the visor covers his eyes so that the detectives could not follow the planned movement by sight. In order to avoid confusion and dishonest play, the criminal is supposed to record his moves in a special notebook.
Thus, Scotland Yard has fairly simple rules, but gives a fairly wide range of behavior options. In addition to the intellectual "warm-up", the game contributes to the development of teamwork skills: to achieve a result, it is best for detectives to work together.
