Timer

— a countdown function that makes it easier to keep track of the duration of cooking: instead of controlling the process with a clock, it is enough to set the timer for the desired period. At the end of the countdown, a beep is usually given, and in some models of ovens, the heating is also turned off. Timers can be mechanical and electronic, depending on the control features; the first is cheaper, and the latter provides very high accuracy — up to a second.
