Flobert Guns
Flobert guns
— a weapon using 22 CB Cap.This type is essentially a small-caliber (4 mm) firearm ammunition. However, unlike other similar ammunition, 22 CB Cap usually does not contain a powder charge, and only the primer composition is used as a propellant charge. Due to this, the muzzle energy of the bullet is very low – comparable to airguns; So in many countries, Flobert guns are officially equated to airguns and are sold without special permits.
The key advantages of such weapons are a number of features that bring them closer to firearms. The first point is the sound of the shot: although it is quieter than that of a combat “short-barreled” weapon, it is still noticeably louder than that of a airguns. The second point is that the methods of loading the magazine and preparing for shooting are very similar (although this is relevant mainly for revolvers, see “Form factor”). The third point is the need for regular cleaning and maintenance. For some shooters, cleaning a weapon is a kind of ritual, so they consider this point as an advantage, not a disadvantage.
It is also worth saying that mainly revolvers are produced for use with the 22 CB Cap; pistols chambered for this ammunition are a rather exotic case (for more details, see “Form factor”).
