— in the original sense of the word, pastel refers to a group of materials for drawing, which looks like multi-coloured crayons without a shell (frame). This group includes, inter alia, resin crayons (see "chalk") and wax crayons (see the relevant paragraph); different manufacturers and sellers may refer these products to both pastels and separate categories. In addition, there are so-called oil and dry pastels: in the first variety, the pigment is mixed with linseed oil, in the second, there is no oil. Dry pastel is well suited for artistic use, other varieties are designed mainly for entertainment or educational use. Also included in this category are the so-called pastel pencils — they are similar to ordinary coloured pencils, but differ in composition and lead manufacturing technology. In fact, such pencils are thin rods of pastels in a hard shell; they are lighter and better suited for precise drawings than classic pastel bars.
