The main advantage of this material is high hardness and strength, metal augers can easily cope with dense snowdrifts and even frozen crust (and for especially hard work, augers with a serrated edge are produced, which are even more performant). At the same time, such a tool cannot be worked close to the ground: it can damage the coating and deteriorate itself. Metal augers are installed mainly in powerful self-propelled snowplows.
