A mattress pad is necessary primarily to ensure that the mattress does not wear out from contact with the bottom of the bed; In any case, such an addition will not be superfluous, but it is especially important for beds where the bottom is made of separate boards (slats). In addition, the mattress pad protects the mattress from splinters and other similar “troubles”; it does not provide a 100% guarantee against damage, but it significantly reduces their likelihood.
