— brass (an alloy of copper and zinc) has good thermal conductivity characteristics, but it is much more expensive than steel, and therefore is relatively rare. By itself, this alloy has a pleasant golden colour, however, in brass towel rails, additional coatings are often used to protect against corrosion — for example, chrome.
