The most popular options in jewelry are 585 and 750 (with a gold content of 58.5% and 70% respectively) — these alloys have an optimal ratio of cost, ease of processing and general practicality for this application. A lower gold content leads to rapid oxidation and darkening of the metal even with normal contact with air, and a higher gold content makes the alloy too soft and unreliable in everyday use.

Jewelry made of gold is often more expensive than silver — not only because of the cost of the metal as such, but also because of a more solid and rich appearance, emphasizing the status of the owner.
