Zirconium

— artificial material, also known as "cubic zirconia". The name "zirconium" is not entirely accurate — in fact, we are talking about zirconium dioxide with some additives. This material is transparent, while it has a high refractive index and dispersion of light, due to which it gives beautiful iridescent reflections and looks like a diamond. Because of this, zirconium stones are widely used as an imitation of diamonds. However in general, this material is not as "bright" as a real diamond, however, various tricks are used in high-grade varieties of zirconium, due to which some of these stones can be distinguished from diamonds only upon close examination. Zirconium is much cheaper than diamond. Also note that it can have a different colour — for example, there are black varieties.
