HyperX Cloud Alpha
Type:full size (over-ear), gaming
Connection:3.5 mm
Frequencies:13 – 27000 Hz
Sensitivity:98 dB

High-quality gaming stereo headset, represents a further development of the gamer line models, including the Cloud and Cloud II headsets. These are over-ear closed-back headphones with large, soft ear cushions and high-quality balanced sound. The headband is based on an aluminum frame, equipped with a soft insert filled with a dampening foam polymer with memory effect. All necessary adjustments are available, including height adjustment and ear pad rotation (up to 45°).

The large and comfortable removable ear cushions fit snugly against the ears, providing good noise isolation from external sounds and preventing those around from hearing what the user is listening to. Thanks to the softness of the foam polymer filler, pressure on the head is evenly distributed across the contact area, avoiding user fatigue even during extended use. The Kingston HyperX Cloud Alpha headset uses 50mm acoustic drivers with neodymium magnets.

A special dual-chamber design allows the separation of the bass component from the mid and high frequencies, reducing the impact of powerful bass on the detail of the rest of the range. The headset features a detachable microphone with medium sensitivity and passive noise cancellation. It comes with a detachable 1.3-meter cable with a 4-pin 3.5mm mini-jack connector and a two-meter extension with two more traditional 3-pin 3.5mm mini-jack connectors. The cable is equipped with a remote control with a microphone mute button and a volume control wheel.

Model overview based on user reviews
The HyperX Cloud Alpha headphones are highly regarded for their excellent sound quality and comfortable fit, making them a popular choice among gamers and audiophiles alike. Users appreciate the durable build and quality materials, including the detachable braided cable. The headphones offer a wide soundstage with clear mids and highs, although some users note that the default sound may require equalizer adjustments for optimal performance. The microphone is detachable and provides clear communication, though some have experienced issues with its durability. The volume control on the cable has been criticized for causing uneven sound distribution over time. Despite these minor drawbacks, the headphones are considered a great value for their price, especially for those seeking a versatile headset compatible with multiple platforms.

good model, liked it
25 March 2024
The best headphones for their price, considering the ease of use. Since the headphones are "gaming" ones, the default sound is simply terrible (frequencies up to ~5kHz are maxed out). But if you have some knowledge, you can apply an equalizer and find a neutral preset, and they will sound as good as audiophile headphones four times the price.

Other than that, they are great headphones: The ear pads haven't started to peel or flatten even after 2 years of use. The height adjustment mechanism is very flimsy, but it holds up for now. The cable is ~3m long, and the volume controller on the cable is awful; after some time, it started to suppress the right channel at maximum volume.

The sound is horrible by default. Fairly flimsy in hand, the height adjustment steps are barely noticeable. The volume control on the wire started acting up over time.

definitely worth their money

excellent ears have been in operation for more than 3 years, they work like clockwork, there are nuances with the remote control at the maximum, the sound sags a little (the problem of the remote control) is rather heavy when used for more than 8 hours a day, the neck aches from them, well, in the summer you definitely need to take velor ear pads, and Yes, stock ones will peel off over time
good sound, quality materials, fit

They would be good headphones for 5 thousand rubles, but for 10 they are mediocre.

For your money you can be patient, but you shouldn’t expect quality here.
Not a bad microphone, sufficient for communication. Decent sound, except for a dip in high frequencies; lows and mids sound great.
Fail in high frequencies, it often feels like some sounds are lost at HF. Not suitable for all head shapes, might be tight as the earpads are not very deep. Build quality is mediocre, for some reason the volume balance sometimes shifts to the left ear, and occasionally there's crackling in the sound. It seems there might be an issue with the microphone switch and volume control.

Popular questions

Verified yesterday, Olexandr Cherkashchenko

What kind of microphone is here?

For gaming chats and regular calls, the microphone is sufficient: the voice comes through clearly, and the flexible boom lets you position it closer to your mouth. The microphone is detachable and can be muted using the switch on the inline remote; for streaming and voice recording, you may want a separate, higher-quality microphone.Source:SpecificationsExpert reviewsUser Reviews

Are the HyperX Cloud Alpha suitable for competitive gaming?

Yes, the direction of footsteps, gunshots, and other sounds is easy to make out, so in shooters it’s easier to understand where the opponent is coming from. The sound here has powerful bass, but it shouldn’t overpower the midrange; there’s no virtual 7.1 here—it’s a fully analog headset.Source:SpecificationsExpert reviews

What about the volume control on the cable?

The control is convenient for quickly adjusting the volume and muting the microphone, but it is the model’s weak point. Several buyers complain that, over time, in certain positions of the wheel, one channel may sound quieter than the other, so constantly turning the control unnecessarily is not the best idea.Source:SpecificationsUser Reviews

Does the HyperX Cloud Alpha require a separate sound card?

No, you don’t need to buy an external sound card just to get adequate volume: the headset plays loudly enough from both built-in audio and a phone. The sound character may change depending on the quality of the audio output, but 65 ohms alone do not make it too quiet.Source:SpecificationsExpert reviews

Are they comfortable to wear for several hours?

The fit is soft and snug: the foam-padded ear cushions and headband wrap comfortably around the head and help with isolation. However, during long gaming sessions, the pressure on the ears may feel stronger, and the faux leather can become warm in a heated room—especially during the first few days of use.Source:SpecificationsExpert reviewsUser Reviews

Can the ear pads be replaced?

Yes, the ear pads can be removed and replaced. This is useful if the faux leather starts peeling over time or if you want a less heat-trapping material for long gaming sessions.Source:SpecificationsExpert reviewsUser Reviews

How do the HyperX Cloud Alpha connect—is there a USB connection?

There is no USB here: the headset connects via 3.5 mm. The short cable is suitable for devices with a combined jack, while the included extension cable separates audio and microphone into two plugs for PCs with separate inputs.Source:SpecificationsExpert reviews

Alpha

A well-known manufacturer of memory modules, Kingston has recently been actively developing all areas of gaming peripherals and has turned the HyperX series into a separate sub-brand. At the same time, the company understands its own limitations of production capacity, therefore, they attract third-party companies for cooperation. So, for the development of many gaming headsets of the HyperX Cloud series, specialists from the QPAD brand, well known to gamers, were responsible. And like most models of this family, Cloud Alpha turned out to be a feast for the eyes.

Dual chamber speakers with versatile sound

Let's start with sound. Dual-chamber speakers sound very different from the company's first headsets. The low frequencies are slightly relegated to the background and no longer obscure the rest of the spectrum, the mids are enriched with details, and the high frequencies are much better detailed. “You can listen with a player” is a serious compliment for any gaming headset, and the HyperX Cloud Alpha is no exception. If we talk about games, then everything is just fine: games delight with juicy explosions, the sounds of falling bombs, the battle cries of monsters and the noise of collapsing buildings. And their positioning is excellent, no multi-channel emulation is needed.

No flaws

Compared to other headphones of the Cloud series, the design of the headset has not changed dramatically, there are not very many differences. Alpha received more red colour in the design and fastening of perforated bowls. The build quality and materials of the case are excellent as always, the fit on the head is as comfortable as possible, HyperX Cloud headphones are famous for this. I was also pleased with the quality of the detachable braided cable with the volume control and the microphone with a certificate from Discord. There is no noise cancellation in it, but the microphone itself is quite good and does not catch extra sounds. However when listening, it may sometimes seem that the interlocutor has a stuffy nose. Separately, I would like to mention the wide compatibility with a variety of platforms. Thanks to several bundled cables and plug design, you can connect the headset to your smartphone, computer, and any modern game console. Even cooler, Cloud Alpha has no weak points. Generally.
