OPPO Find X2 has just hit the market, yet it already seems like a very controversial device. If you Google its reviews, you will often come across phrases like “Galaxy killer” or “flagship of the year,” yet no reviewer can clearly explain why it is the best. So, let's take a closer look at its strengths and try to determine if they justify the $1000 price tag.
The Best Display on the Market?
The conversation about the Find X2 usually starts with its huge 6.7-inch OLED display with a resolution of 3168x1440 pixels, 120 Hz refresh rate support, HDR 10+, Ultra Vision Engine content “acceleration,” and auto color adjustment, similar to Apple's True Tone. The display is indeed stunning, making you want to praise it on every front. Just be careful with the refresh rate; after using the Oppo Find X2 with a 120 Hz rate for a few days and then switching to a regular 60 Hz smartphone, the old device seems incredibly sluggish.
Charge from 0 to 100% in 38 Minutes
The smartphone features an excellent triple camera with 5x hybrid zoom, a wide-angle lens with a Sony IMX708 sensor, and impressive stabilization. In terms of design, the OPPO Find X2 looks familiar (large rounded body, neat cutout for the front camera, metallic frames, and glass back), while the monstrous 65-watt charger stands out, fully charging the battery in just 38 minutes. There’s no wireless charging, but it does have an in-screen fingerprint scanner and a sixth-generation Wi-Fi receiver.
Excellent but Not Perfect
Overall, the smartphone is excellent, but it doesn’t particularly stand out among other flagships this year. Yes, the screen is superb, the specs are top-tier, the system is well optimized, and the camera takes stunning shots, but hasn’t this been seen in The Simpsons already? Every good phone with a $1000 price tag now comes with Snapdragon 865, 8 – 12 GB of RAM, large built-in storage, and a camera that ranks at the top of Dxomark. However, the Find X2 has its shortcomings. It has only one SIM card slot, no microSD support, and its IP54 water resistance is just a name. Dropping it in water or taking photos in the pool is strictly forbidden. The takeaway is that the device is indeed excellent, especially for gaming or watching movies on a smartphone. But it is unlikely to be the smartphone of the year, as it has plenty of competitors at this price point.
