What should be an affordable gaming monitor
What do we need from an inexpensive gaming monitor? The sweep frequency is higher than the standard 60 Hz. Ideally 120 – 144, but 75 Hz will do. What else? To make the matrix fast, less than 4 ms. Well, don't forget about support for useful things like AMD FreeSync. It is this set for low-cost gamers that carries the affordable Acer VG240Y gaming monitor, which belongs to the popular Nitro line.
1ms response time with MPRT
To some extent, the VG240Y even anticipates expectations, because if you measure the response time not by the popular grey-to-grey method, but more suitable for MPRT (motion picture response time) games, then the matrix speed will be 1 ms. It is clear that this is not pure 1 ms, as in expensive gaming monitors, but for not the fastest IPS matrices this is a good result. Well, do not forget that this handsome man costs only $150, and in these waters, models with fast matrices do not swim at all. The rest of the Acer Nitro VG240Y looks quite modern: a 24-inch matrix displays a picture with FullHD resolution, and the brightness, contrast and colour performance are at an adequate level for this class. The image looks quite nice, although many people do not really like the cold tint. However, this can be tweaked in the settings.
Zero Frame Design
In terms of additional functions, the monitor does not shine, it is not supposed to by its status. There are a couple of built-in speakers, which are not to say that they are very necessary, but they will not be superfluous either. Instead of one HDMI port, there are two. A standard VESA mount allows you to hang the monitor on the wall. Finally, let's praise the appearance of the Acer Nitro VG240Y: it is made in accordance with the Zero Frame concept, which, thanks to thin side frames, allows you to combine several adjacent displays into one large screen. The frames on the sides and top are really barely noticeable here, which fully allows us to call this model frameless.
