New Apple M4 processor
Unlike previous generations of iPad Pro, the 2024 version brings several major changes on its wings. To begin with, Apple decided to skip one evolutionary step and installed the brand new Apple M4 processor in the iPad Pro instead of the recent M3. It's a 3-nanometer chip that Apple says is one and a half times faster than the M2 processor used in the last generation iPad Pro. Plus, it copes much faster with tasks related to AI and machine learning. Apple released the M4 in two versions: the 9-core one is used in the iPad Pro with 256 GB and 512 GB of memory, and the more powerful 10-core chip is designed for top-end firmware with 1 TB and 2 TB of memory.
Ultra Retina XDR OLED screen with HDR10, Dolby Vision and 120Hz
Serious updates affected the screen: iPad Pro 2024 became the company's first tablet with an OLED screen, which Apple traditionally called Ultra Retina XDR. In addition to the 13-inch version, a similar model with an 11-inch screen also went on sale. Both versions feature a built-in light sensor, support HDR10 with Dolby Vision, and boast a 120Hz refresh rate, full DCI-P3 color gamut coverage, and 1,000 nits of peak brightness (approx., or 1,600 nits in HDR mode). The screen impresses with its characteristics and looks just as impressive in real life; it’s difficult to add anything else.
Ultra-thin body
Otherwise, this is the usual iPad Pro with FaceID, Wi-Fi 6E, high-quality stereo speakers, stylus support, USB4 and Thunderbolt. The difference is that the front camera is now placed on the side panel for more convenient video calling, and the main camera no longer has a wide-angle module. Apple also boasted that thanks to the use of an OLED matrix, the metal body has become even thinner and lighter (thickness 5.1 mm, weight 582 grams for the 11-inch version) and this is perhaps the thinnest iPad in the history of the brand. For comparison, the 2022 iPad Pro was 5.9mm thick.
