AC1200 class dual-band wireless router with Wi-Fi 5 (802.11b/g/n/ac) support, four LAN ports and a USB 2.0 connector for connecting 3G/4G(LTE) modems or drives. It is positioned as a product of the upper part of the middle price category, designed to organize a full-speed connection to the global network of a one / two-room apartment, a small private house or a small office. When organizing an incoming connection via a USB modem, it can become the basis for creating a high-speed network infrastructure in small suburban facilities that do not have cable connectivity. As a regular connection to the provider's network, there is a WAN port with a bandwidth of up to 1 Gbps. The hardware configuration of the Asus RT-AC57U wireless router is based on a 2-core MediaTek MT7621AT (880 MHz) processor..., which works in conjunction with MediaTek MT7603EN and MediaTek MT7612EN Wi-Fi modules. With support for MIMO technology in a 2x2 configuration and four fixed antennas with a gain of 5 dBi, the theoretical data transfer rate in the 2.4 GHz band can reach 300 Mbps, and when using a 5 GHz carrier frequency — 867 Mbps. The USB 2.0 port supports the connection of modems, USB drives or printers, allowing you to deploy a file server (FTP, SMB), a DLNA media server, or set up printer sharing.

Universal router with an adequate price tag

The assortment of Asus routers is clearly delineated - at the bottom of the evolutionary chain are simple home routers, in the middle of the model are more powerful for offices, and at the top of the chain are options for gamers. Nevertheless, the Asus RT-AC57U model is difficult to fit into any category right off the bat. This is quite an interesting dual-band router with gigabit ports, which is equally suitable for organizing an office network or will become a reliable assistant to a streamer.

Class AC1200

It is equipped with four Gigabit LAN ports and belongs to the AC1200 class, that is, the theoretical data transfer rate threshold is 1.3 Gbps (300 Mbps in the 2.4 GHz band and 867 Mbps in the 5 Hz frequency). In fact, we managed to squeeze out about 200 – 250 Mbps in a 2.4 GHz network and a little less than 900 Mbps for 5 GHz. The numbers are good, but not fantastic. Oh yes, this is also one of the few purely home routers, to which at the same time connect a 4G USB modem and take it with you out of town.

Nothing extra

The interesting design enhances the pleasant impression: the top cover of the Asus RT-AC57 is made of glossy plastic with a nice embossed pattern and a small matte insert at the top. I would also like to emphasize the excellent implementation of the software shell: it is perfectly structured and localized, and the number of available settings is not inferior to top solutions. If network administration is not your forte, then there is a traditional alternative in the form of the most convenient ASUS Router mobile application for quick network setup. In general, we get a high-quality and affordable model with an adequate price tag, which will provide stable high-speed coverage in an apartment, house or small office.
