Bold design

The VivoBook S series laptops have been extremely successful in recent years, so in the 2019 update, Asus did not come up with anything radically new, but focused on design. Now, in addition to the strict blue and grey models, the VivoBook line can offer the buyer quite colorful and pretty models with red, green and gold colours. Moreover, this applies not only to the outer cover, but also to the edging along the body. It looks at least fresh, although not everyone will like it.

Laptop for every day

Asus calls the VivoBook S15 an everyday laptop with the weight and compactness of an ultrabook. And they are not disingenuous, in terms of weight it is one of the lightest models of its kind (1.8 kg), and only a few units like the Dell XPS 15 and MacBook Pro come to mind from thinner models. Anyway, 18 mm thickness is very cool. The display cover, work area and sidewalls are made of metal, and only the bottom cover is made of plastic.

Signature ErgoLift hinge

Another interesting feature is the company's patented ErgoLift hinge, which, when the lid is opened, automatically raises the top half of the laptop and tilts the screen to a comfortable angle for the user. Thanks to this unusual design, the hands rest comfortably on the keyboard, and the cooling system dissipates excess heat without any problems, which is why the laptop practically does not heat up.

Powerful iron

Powerful components are hidden in a thin body with a metallic finish: a Core i7 processor with 4 physical and 8 virtual cores, 16 GB of RAM, a capacious 512 GB SSD and a GeForce MX150 graphics card. Performance here is quite enough even for working with 3D graphics. Although, for these purposes it is still better to take a stationary computer. In terms of each hryvnia spent, one of the most performant bundles is obtained, the laptop itself costs a little more than $1100.

No weak spots

In addition to this, the model received fast charging, a full-sized backlit keyboard, a fingerprint scanner, a pair of very decent speakers and a large glass touchpad. The most surprising thing is that the VivoBook S15 does not have any frank jambs that spoil the overall picture. We can only criticize the most successful display calibration and a modest colour gamut of 54% sRGB. But you can calibrate the screen using a proprietary utility, and a large colour gamut is primarily important for designers. But the display has very thin bezels — it occupies 88% of the front panel.
