The Softfocus function is implemented by introducing a special all-glass aspherical lens into the optical scheme and allows you to give a special softness to the image. As a result, small details such as wrinkles and similar defects are softened and cease to stand out in contrast. Softfocus is a kind of optical image retouching, often just indispensable when photographing the elderly or creating custom dress portraits. In a Canon lens, softening is achieved by a classic technique - using magnitude-controlled spherical aberration. And the ability to regulate it up to complete elimination makes it possible to control this effect from its complete exclusion (perfectly sharp shot) to maximum mitigation. There are two degrees of softening, switchable on the lens itself. In addition to the portrait lens, it can be used for any shooting that benefits in compositional and artistic terms when using such long-focus optics.
