Canon 0570C005AA

With the EF 50mm f/1.8 STM lens you can easily produce more artistic and impactful photography thanks to a wide f/1.8 apertur... moree that produces sharp focus on your subject and a beautiful blurred background.Artistic and impactful photography:- The wide f/1.8 aperture of the EF 50mm f/1.8 STM gives you the ability to bring your subject into sharp focus and blur the background. Photographers refer to this as a ‘narrow depth of field’ and makes your subject stand out which is great for portraits, as people become the clear focus of your shot.Let more light in- The wide f/1.8 aperture lets in more than 8x the amount of light compared to the standard zoom lens that is provided with your EOS*. This results in sharper images with less motion blur and reduced need to use flash in dimly lit conditions so you can easily capture the atmosphere of a low light environment. For portraits and everyday use- The 50mm focal length allows you to fill the frame with your subject from a comfortable distance making it a great lens for portraits. A similar perspective to the human eye and its compact size make the EF 50mm f/1.8 STM a great everyday lens to always carry with your EOS camera.Sharp focus for photos and videos- The near-silent STM (Stepping Motor) technology focuses extremely quickly when shooting photos, so you can react suddenly to capture fleeting moments. Creating high quality movies is easier with STM as it delivers steady and quiet continuous focusing, so your movies are smooth, and soundtracks only capture the surrounding sounds and not the noise of a focusing motor.A classic re-born- The EF 50mm f/1.8 STM replaces the popular EF 50mm f/1.8 II lens which was affectionately known for giving outstanding picture quality at an affordable price. This latest version gives the same stunning photo quality but with a fast, near-silent focus motor and a more robust build that belies its price.Specifications:- Angle of view (horzntl, vertl, diagnl)40º, 27º,46º- Lens construction (elements/groups)6/5- No. of diaphragm blades7- Minimum aperture22¹- Closest focussing distance (m)0.35- Maximum magnification (x) 0.21- Distance Information Yes- AF actuator STMPHYSICAL SPECIFICATIONS:- Filter diameter (mm) 49- Max. diameter x length (mm) 69.2 x 39.3- Weight (g) 160ACCESSORIES:- Lens cap:E-49- Lens hood ES-68- Lens case/pouch :LP1014- Rear cap: Lens Dust Cap E- Magnification w/ Extension Tube EF12 II: 0.45-0.24- Magnification w/ Extension Tube EF25 II 0.74-0.53- Extender Compatiblity: Not Compatible

Model overview based on user reviews
The Canon 50mm f/1.8 EF STM lens is highly praised for its affordability and quality, making it a popular choice for both beginners and professionals. Users appreciate its sharpness, color accuracy, and fast autofocus, although some note that the autofocus can occasionally miss. The lens is lightweight and compact, with a metal bayonet mount that adds to its durability. While the maximum aperture of f/1.8 is not always considered fully functional, stopping down slightly improves sharpness significantly. The lens is particularly favored for portrait photography due to its pleasing bokeh and precise focus. However, it lacks image stabilization and a lens hood, which some users find necessary. Overall, the Canon 50mm f/1.8 EF STM is seen as an excellent budget-friendly option with a few minor drawbacks, offering great value for its price.

One of the best portrait lenses for Canon. Focus is accurate, but the bokeh leaves much to be desired.
Precise focusing, does not darken.

The successor to the legendary Canon EF 50mm f/1.8 II lens has received a number of useful improvements to keep up with the times, since this version of the lens was released back in 1990.

Innovations

Perhaps the main innovation is encrypted in the name of the “fifty kopecks” — the STM symbols in its marking indicate the use of a fast and quiet focus stepper motor. With the new drive, the lens began to accurately focus in almost all cases, and the percentage of autofocus misses inexorably crept down (compared to its predecessor). Equally important was the appearance of a metal bayonet mount instead of an unreliable plastic one, as well as an increase in aperture blades (from 5 to 7), due to which objects in the blur zone acquired more rounded outlines instead of not always appropriate "nuts".

Picture

In the process of shooting, it is advisable to cover the aperture of the lens to f / 2.2-2.8, because the maximum open hole cannot be called a working one. And if you cover up even more (up to about f / 5.6-8), then even the most severe critic will not be able to find fault with the sharpness of the image. Also, the lens is not subject to chromatic aberrations and is not particularly afraid of light. In general, the Canon EF 50mm f/1.8 STM produces a picture with excellent colour reproduction and characteristic harsh bokeh.

Demand

The fix is equally well revealed both on Canon cropped DSLRs (with an APS-C format sensor) and on full-frame cameras from the Japanese manufacturer. Its resolution is enough even to work in tandem with the multi-megapixel "monster" Canon EOS 5DS. But what potential owners of the lens may not like is the “proboscis” that leaves when focus, sucking dust into the structure and somewhat limiting the use of filters. In other respects, the Canon EF 50mm f/1.8 STM does not raise any complaints, which, together with a reasonable cost, elevates the lens to the rank of one of the most sought-after fixes of our time.
