The fastest first-wave Gen5 SSD

The Corsair MP700 PRO is a flagship NVMe SSD with a PCIe 5.0 interface, built for enthusiasts and professionals. It’s based on the Phison PS5026-E26 controller, 232-layer Micron TLC NAND, and 4 GB of fast Hynix LPDDR4-4266 cache (on the 2 TB version). At launch in early 2024, it was considered one of the fastest on the market, delivering up to 12,400 MB/s reads and up to 11,800 MB/s writes. By 2025, however, the lead had shifted to newer offerings from Samsung, WD, and Kingston.

Generous cache and stable speed when the buffer fills

Despite rising competition, the MP700 PRO still impresses. In real-world use, it hits write peaks over 10 GB/s for the first 20 seconds, then settles around 3.5 GB/s. The pseudo-SLC cache can reach 220 GB when empty—enough for most scenarios. Endurance is on par for the class: 700 TBW for the 1 TB version and 1400 TBW for the 2 TB model, with a five-year warranty. This SSD is a great fit for workflows where maximum throughput is critical: editing high-resolution video, working with large database workloads, and other resource‑intensive processes.

Hot-running controller needs robust cooling

There’s an important caveat: the base Corsair MP700 PRO ships without a cooling solution. And given how hot the Phison E26 controller runs, without a heatsink the drive quickly overheats and drops into thermal throttling after just a couple of minutes of sustained work. Fortunately, most modern mid-range and high-end motherboards come with SSD heatsinks. In addition, Corsair offers its own add-on coolers, including an enthusiast model with an active fan. Even with newer options around, the MP700 PRO remains one of the most expensive and prestigious Gen5 SSDs.
