D-Link 8-Port PoE Rack-mountable Unmanaged Desktop Switch DGS-1008P/B

. D-Link 8-port 10/100/1000 Umanaged Desktop Switch with 4 PoE PortsThe DGS-1008P PoE Gigabit Desktop switch provides a cost-... moreeffective way for SOHO and SMB to benefit from the Power over Ethernet (PoE) technology by allowing users to power up devices such as wireless access points network cameras or IP phones directly from the network cables. The DGS-1008P is equipped with Gigabit ports for faster speeds and integrates D-Link's Green Ethernet technology to save power when the switch is not in use. Its fanless design makes it completely silent so it is ideal for offices libraries or meeting rooms. The first four ports of the DGS-1008P support the IEEE 802.3af PoE standard. Each of these four ports can supply up to. 15.4 Watts making it a very convenient solution for applications that are far away from power outlets or when it is necessary to minimize the clutter of extra power supplies. The switch will automatically detect the power that a connected PoE device requires so no configuration is needed. A failsafe mechanism will cut off the power in case of an unexpected PoE overload protecting both the switch and the connected device. Every time the DGS-1008P is powered up it runs a micro diagnostics routine to check the integrity of the connected Ethernet cables. If a failure is detected the switch will flag it by means of its front panel LEDs making it easy for the user to troubleshoot wiring problems. Despite being an unmanaged Plug and Play switch the DGS-1008P is able to classify network traffic by assessing the existing 802.1p and DSCP fields in the Ethernet frames and IP packets respectively and forward them out of its ports depending on their priority. This allows for a smooth integration of video voice and data traffic without delays or loss of quality. The DGS-1008P is part of D-Link Green D-Link's eco-friendly technology providing energy savings reduced power consumption and a longer product lifespan without sacrificing operational performance or functionality. This switch implements the Green Ethernet technology which can save a substantial amount of energy by detecting the connected cable lengths adjusting the power accordingly; and the port status putting them in low-power stand-by mode when no network traffic is detected. Thanks to these power reductions D-Link has been able to remove the fans in the DGS-1008P's design making it completely silent and dramatically increasing its lifespan.. .

The size of this small switch in a compact package allows you to easily place it even in places with very limited free space. The ports are located on the rear panel, which hides the cables and minimizes their impact on the interior of the room. The switch has a passive cooling system and is therefore silent in operation, which is a big plus in a small office or home.

Gigabit speed

Despite its modest size and cost, the switch offers 8 Ethernet ports with gigabit speed. This allows you to make the local office network very fast, as well as connect wireless access points to the switch that support the advanced and fast Wi-Fi 802.11ac standard without a significant impact on the overall data transfer rate between network segments. A fast network also makes it possible to use the shared resources of NAS (Network Attached Storage) with more bandwidth and, accordingly, speed.

It is easy and simple to connect the switch to the network, it does not require manual settings, it automatically detects the speed and connection type on the ports, eliminating the need to use crossover cables when connecting to another switch or hub.

Data and power through one cable

4 Ethernet ports with PoE support allow not only to transfer data, but also to supply power through a twisted pair cable. These ports can be connected to active network equipment that does not receive or is not able to receive power from the mains - various access points, IP video surveillance cameras, etc. At the same time, unlike low-cost switch models, all 4 ports here support the IEEE 802.3at standard. That is, active network equipment with power consumption up to 30 W can be connected to each of the PoE ports - for example, heated outdoor IP cameras. While low-cost devices usually allow a load of less than 15 watts per port.

At the same time, you need to take into account that the total PoE low-cost of the switch is 68W. Thus, devices corresponding to IEEE 802.3af with a consumption of up to 15 W can be simultaneously connected to all 4 ports of the switch. However, more than 2 PoE devices compliant with IEEE 802.3at cannot be connected to it at the same time, with a consumption of about 30 watts.

Power saving function

Of the additional features, the switch supports D-Link Green technology. It reduces power consumption and extends the life of the device without sacrificing performance or functionality. Briefly about D-Link Green: the technology automatically changes power consumption depending on the status of the connection and the length of the connecting cable, up to the complete shutdown of the port in the absence of communication with the device.

Despite the fact that the D-Link DGS-1008P switch is far from new, this model, in terms of price and performance, will give odds to many much more “modern” models. This is an excellent choice for creating a network in the SOHO segment.
