Model overview based on user reviews
The Edifier R2850DB speakers are generally praised for their excellent sound quality within their price range, offering a balanced frequency response and a pleasant appearance. Users appreciate the solid build quality and the variety of connection options, including optical and coaxial inputs. However, some users have noted that the speakers are sensitive to placement in the room, which can affect sound quality, particularly the bass. While many find the sound to be deep and clear, others have experienced issues with muffled mid frequencies and excessive bass rumble. The speakers are considered a good choice for those seeking decent sound without breaking the bank, though they may not satisfy audiophiles accustomed to high-end equipment. The short power cord is a common complaint, but overall, the R2850DB is recommended for its price-to-quality ratio and suitability for various audio needs.

Excellent sound for its segment, balanced frequency response, pleasant appearance, solid interconnect cable, and connector. Optical connection. The fairly significant weight of the speakers confirms the serious components inside. This is more of a nuance rather than a drawback of all AS, but since this AS is quite powerful, it is highly advisable to place it in the optimal position in the room to avoid sound reflections and consequently severely reduced low frequencies and "scattered" sound. |
A decent model for its price. I'm using it in a small room and, in my opinion, they sound good. It's adequate for movies, music, and watching football. I can't say it's the best sound I've ever heard, but it's not the worst either. The design is ordinary. Price/quality ratio, build quality, ease of use, decent sound Short power cord |
If you have ever heard decent audio equipment in your life, like Japanese audio from the 70s-80s, don’t even consider this ersatz. Forget about Japan... Even the Soviet S-90s played better, and by a long shot. I returned these Edifiers to the sender after suffering through their "sound" for only 2 hours! I'm genuinely puzzled as to how anyone in the world could praise these products! Apparently, people either are seeing speakers for the first time, had some dirt-cheap "Genius" models before, or simply have no natural hearing ability if they're willing to listen to such mush instead of sound. It is difficult for me to name advantages when a product does not fulfill its main function. The tweeters seemed to play relatively well, but they were the only ones. Not suitable for music. At all. For none. No LossLess will save it, neither coaxial nor optical connection will help. There's no sound here, none at all. There are hardly any mid frequencies, they are muffled and weak - there is simply no clarity and detail. The low-frequency speaker is clearly set with a filter for too high frequencies, and as a result, all you can hear is a rumble; it flutters at frequencies where it shouldn't be present as a LF! Meanwhile, it doesn't even play truly low frequencies, as even the most primitive electronic beat, or "knock," or drum hits, any rhythm you name it - this speaker just doesn't perform - all you hear is a rumble that just spreads throughout the entire room as background noise. But this is not bass, it's merely a droning sound overshadowing the whole music with its noise. No adjustments, whether through the speakers themselves or equalizers on the computer, have helped. |

As for people who hear only a rumble in them, I don't even know what to say. It's likely they encountered a defective pair.
I would also like to add that the speakers (like any acoustics) are very sensitive to their placement in the room. Based on advice from the internet, I bought stands over a meter high for them. And imagine my surprise when on the floor (bookshelf speakers, mind you) they began to sound noticeably better. The lows became more refined and soft. This happened because on the stands, the sound went into bare walls, whereas on the floor, it went toward the couch. Such a small detail can radically affect the sound.
