Model overview based on user reviews
The Gamemax GM-G Series, specifically the GM-500G model, receives mixed reviews from users. On the positive side, it is praised for its beautiful design, great packaging, and partially detachable cables. Some users find it to be an excellent unit for the money, appreciating the modular wires and quiet 140mm cooler. However, several users report significant issues, including a noisy cooler that often requires replacement with a quieter option like Noctua. More critically, the power supply has poor protection against voltage surges, leading to failures such as burned-out MOSFETs after voltage drops. These problems have led some users to recommend considering more reliable alternatives.
Pros

Cons

Take another, more reliable one, this saves on both the cooler and protection!

He died a year and three months later, right before the new year! I don't recommend it! Noisy cooler, replaced with Noctua! The cause of death was a voltage drop in the network. I've endured this crap twice before, but it was apparently stronger.
Beautiful, great packaging, partially detachable cables
Noisy cooler, forced to replace it with a Noctua, burned out after just a year and three months due to a voltage drop in the network, it holds them weakly!

great model, love it

An excellent unit for the money, everything is done with high quality, the wires are modular and the length is normal, a quiet 140mm cooler.

Bad PSU. Not recommended. Inside, although I'm not a techie, it seems to be of good quality, BUT it has a noisy fan (30 dB estimate - it's like a helicopter), which is why I immediately opened it up, replaced the fan with a Noctua and connected the power to the motherboard. Unfortunately, that was just the beginning. A year later, it died due to a voltage surge (there were only 3 in a year), a fuse blew, and a MOSFET burned out. My brother fixed it for me after about 2 weeks, but I had already bought an Enermax as a replacement (also bad regarding fans, as it has 2 small ones - I was misled by YouTube concerning the noise).
worked for a year, the certificate would be Gold, but I’m not sure about this, because... I was forced to immediately replace the cooler because of the noise.
Noisy cooler, poor power supply protection against voltage surges - a primitive fuse did not help - the mosfets burned out.

Gold for the people

The GM-500 from Gamemax is one of the most affordable PSUs with 80+ Gold certification. According to the passport, it boasts a serious efficiency of 90%, in real tests in the range of loads typical for this power supply (100 – 300 W), the energy efficiency slightly sags and stays in the range of 87 – 85%. Given the price of $ 60, you can close your eyes to a slightly overestimated efficiency. Moreover, for this money, its only competitor is the strong, but not flawless Chieftec Core.

High quality

All this makes you scratch your head thoughtfully, because offhand it's hard to say what exactly they saved on here .. There are no complaints about the build quality either. The body panels, although not the thickest, are not made of "foil" either. Yes, and he looks great. Although, this is a matter of secondary importance. Despite the use of fairly simple circuitry, the model is equipped with all the necessary nodes: an EMI filter, an APFC module and support for a number of protections are in place. Explicit savings are only observed in the use of Taiwanese and Chinese capacitors, the quality of which raises big questions.

Semi-modular structure

In addition, the GM-500G has a good system for filtering output ripples, a well-thought-out semi-modular structure (detachable wires are made in the form of flexible cables), as well as a sufficient number of connectors for connecting peripherals (5 SATA, 3 Molex), which with equal success allows you to use it and in mid-range gaming PCs, and in regular office computers. Although, in the latter case, it would be wiser to save a little and take a simplified and less powerful version without a Gold Plus certificate.
