Model overview based on user reviews
The Intel Core i5 Skylake processors are praised for their high performance and energy efficiency, making them a strong choice for both gaming and office tasks. Users appreciate the compatibility with many motherboards and the processor's ability to maintain stability and reliability over long-term use. The integrated Intel HD Graphics 530 and the option for models with a free multiplier add to its versatility. While some users note the thermal gum under the lid as a minor drawback, the processor's ability to be easily overclocked to enhance performance is a significant advantage. Overall, the Intel Core i5 Skylake remains a relevant and powerful option even years after its release, offering excellent value for those looking to upgrade their systems.

If you have the cash - I recommend buying it.

i5-6600K. Easily overclocked to 4.5 GHz, the hottest core in LinX at that point is 90 degrees. Cooler Noctua NH-D14. Motherboard - Asrock z170 extreme4. Memory - built-in profile 2666 MHz. Paired with gtx980 (also overclocked) excellent performance in games. I'm satisfied, I can put the upgrade topic to rest for 3-4 years.
Productive, relatively cool, DDR4 memory.
Thermal gum under the lid. If you get bored - I'll scalp you :)))

I recommend purchasing!

Still on sale in 2021!
Great per-core performance, runs cool, and it can be overclocked (on my mobo it hit 4.5, but some enthusiasts have pushed it to 4.9!).

Middle class

Intel Core i5-6400 is the youngest and, accordingly, the most affordable model of the Skylake generation Core i5 processor series. The i5-6400 at 2.7 GHz costs an average of $190, while the i5-6500 at 3.3 GHz costs $230. For this amount, in addition to the processor itself, you get a cooler, albeit not silent, but quite sufficient to remove 65 W of heat.

Four means four

All desktop Core i5 models are true quad-cores, while the younger Core i3s have only two physical cores and two more virtual cores. Therefore, the Core i5 is about one and a half times faster than the Core i3. Most of all, the difference is felt in professional applications and processor-intensive games such as Battlefield 4, Arma 3, Assassin's Creed Syndicate, etc.

Auto acceleration in addition

The nominal frequency of the Core i5-6400 is relatively low - 2.7 GHz, but the technology of guaranteed automatic overclocking Turbo Boost comes to the rescue. So, with a load on all cores, the processor accelerates to 3.1 GHz, and with a load of only one core - up to 3.3 GHz. As a result, we can recommend the i5-6400 for building an advanced gaming PC with a Radeon RX 480, GeForce GTX 1060 and more powerful graphics card.
