Great synth to start with.
Single-voiced. Although this is not a disadvantage at all.

monophonic beast

The Monologue is the next generation of synthesizer from Korg, which is the ideological successor to the successful Korg Minilogue. In comparison with the older brother in Monologue, we received a redesigned pair of oscillators with support for synchronization and ring modulation, a new two-pole filter, a modified set of modulators and a drive mode. In fact, the main task of the engineers was to maximize the monophonic nature of the synthesizer, so that it could equally well produce metal leads, powerful aggressive basses or crazy space sounds with fast pitch modulation.

Step sequencer with step modulation

Given the monophonic nature of the instrument, a step sequencer with step modulation became an important part of the synthesizer. This means that for each step in the sequencer, the user is free to select not only the desired note, but also set the individual values of any parameters. This is great for bringing static rhythms and melodies to life by breathing life into them. Proven by the Volca series, where all this has been applied with success. By the way, as in Volca sequencers, here you can also record a sequence of notes, playing it in real time, or programme each note manually in search of unexpected combinations, as techno producers love. The only pity is that the sequencer was not supplemented with a conventional arpeggiator.

Runs on batteries

In terms of ergonomics, the Monologue also took a small step forward. To begin with, a small display was added, acting as an oscilloscope to display the synthesized waveform. Then there was full battery life — in addition to the ability to power not only from the adapter (by the way, it is not included in the package), but also from batteries. The quality of materials and assembly remained at the same high level: the aluminium case lies pleasantly in the hands, the rotary controls are large and moderately tight, the keyboard has not changed, everything was in order with it anyway.

modest envelopes

We can criticize only the weak implementation of the envelopes. Instead of the usual ADSR, here we have only an AD envelope with the ability to switch three types. Synthesizers from the same price segment often look more interesting in this regard. Well, be sure to note that this is a monophonic synthesizer, it cannot play several notes at the same time and play chords.
