Active mechanics is called mechanics, which provides the relationship between the force of pressing the key and the characteristics of the sound (as opposed to passive mechanics, where there is no such relationship). A stronger and faster pressing will give a louder and sharper sound on such an instrument — roughly speaking, like on a real piano. However note that the physical sensations when playing on an active keyboard will not correspond to a real piano — this requires more advanced hammer action (see the relevant paragraph). Nevertheless, having active mechanics at his disposal, the musician can control not only the duration, but also the dynamics of notes — thus, he has a full-fledged musical instrument in his hands with the ability to use techniques related to loudness and sharpness of sound. At the same time, the design may provide the ability to turn off active mechanics — for example, to imitate certain instruments or to provide a specific sound.
