Veteran of the grinding front
The Makita 9911 grinder has been on sale for over 10 years. Its design has been tested by time and extensive operating experience. Although there are many complaints about the quality of the casting of the body (there are often uneven joints of parts and burrs on the edges), the mechanical part of the device works, usually, perfectly. Therefore, the Makita 9911 has developed a strong reputation as an "indestructible classic".
The tool is light (2.7 kg) and lies well in the hands. The body shape and good weight distribution allow you to hold the device in one hand and work on weight. But the complete absence of any rubberized inserts on the handles is puzzling (that is, the beats and vibrations that occur when processing uneven surfaces are not absorbed by anything). An unexpected solution for a tool that can not be called a low-cost tool, but this is typical of the rest of Makita belt sanders.
Flexible settings
A distinctive feature of this model is the ability to adjust the speed, which changes the speed of the belt in a wide range — from 75 m/min to 270 m/min. This allows you to select the optimal modes for different tasks: high speed — for fine grinding, low — for rough work, such as cleaning or chamfering. If the speed preset seems to you an unnecessary option, then pay attention to the exact same Makita 9910 model, which lacks this feature and costs less.
Users usually praise the quiet operation of the machine and the well-implemented dust collection (it is almost all sucked into the bag). But the internal air ducts, through which dust is discharged to the dust collector, can become clogged with large sawdust during rough work. Fortunately, the device can be easily disassembled for cleaning and purging.
Surface finishing machine
The Makita 9911 machine is optimally suited for a small woodworking workshop (home or professional). It is especially good at working with fine-grained sandpaper, so it is useful for finishing and preparing wood for applying varnish or paint. But for construction tasks associated with large volumes of rough work (like grinding floors several dozen squares at a time), it is better to take Makita 9404 or Makita 9403, which have a thousand watts with a “tail”.
