3 operating frequencies, 3 separate radio units

In 2023, Taiwanese manufacturer MSI jumped into the gaming router market with its smart and powerful RadiX series routers. The top model RadiX AXE6600 came to us for testing with powerful hardware, Wi-Fi 6E (read more about this standard here), 2.5 gigabit connection, a smart traffic distribution system based on AI and a rather interesting RGB backlight (note: the logo and antennas). To transmit a Wi-Fi signal, the MSI RadiX AX6600 provides 3 radio units with support for Wi-Fi 6E (802.11ax) and separate antennas. Each of them is tuned and optimized to operate in a specific frequency range (2.4 Hz, 5 Hz and 6 Hz), and the total throughput of the device reaches 6600 Mbps.

Productive filling ready for any challenge

The MSI RadiX AXE6600 hides quite powerful hardware for a regular network router - a 4-core processor with a clock frequency of 1.8 GHz, 512 MB of DDR4 RAM, plus 256 MB of flash memory for firmware, event log, storage of settings and software updates. And to prevent all this stuff from overheating, MSI engineers used developments for cooling systems from their gaming laptops, using heat pipes and compact graphene-coated radiators. Strong muscles allow it to easily cope with all the features of the latest versions of the Wi-Fi standard, including MU-MIMO, OFDMA and Beamforming. In addition, it plays an important role in QoS traffic distribution.

MSI AI QoS

Quality of Service (QoS) is a prioritization function that allows the router to independently determine which device should receive more data packets in which queue. Unlike QoS in conventional routers, the RadiX series uses a comprehensive MSI AI QoS algorithm that can be taught to downgrade the conditional Netflix or slow down the torrent speed when you play COD with friends or try co-op in Baldur's Gate 3. The beauty is that Over time, the AI adapts to your habits and works in a “set it and forget it” style. Conveniently, the user can attach the backlight so that it signals that AI QoS is turned on. Well, or turn it off altogether if it’s annoying. Also worthy of praise is the simple, neat and concise mobile application/web service with which you can easily get to almost any setting. Well, a USB port is never superfluous. At the same time, the RadiX AX6600 does not have any obvious disadvantages, so the MSI team can be congratulated on a successful debut.
