Video reviews

PicoPix PPX-620 is a new portable Full HD DLP projector that Philips launched in 2021. It is a great example of a modern portable projector that keeps up with the times. Android AOSP smart firmware is installed on board with a bunch of pre-installed streaming services (Hulu, Amazon, Netflix, YouTube), a built-in media player and a full-fledged Firefox web browser.

The projector can connect to other gadgets via Wi-Fi 5, Bluetooth 5, HDMI and multiple USB ports (2 USB-C and one USB A). Unlike many portable projectors, the PicoPix has a built-in memory card slot. Built-in 16500 mAh battery provides 3 hours of operation. The built-in 8W speakers do a good job of reproducing speech during lectures and conferences, but this is not enough for a full-fledged cinematic experience. In this case, the projector can be connected via Bluetooth to the soundbar from the TV. Or, in the old fashioned way, throw an audio cable to the speakers.

The PicoPix PPX-620 LED light source is rated for 30,000 hours. Philips does not provide luminous flux specifications for PicoPix Max, so I had to measure it manually. The brightest was the "Presentation" mode, in which the projector produced 340 lumens. Most often, we used the "normal" mode, when the projector shows the most accurate colour reproduction and contrast. In this case, the brightness of Philips PicoPix PPX-620 is 250 lumens.

Like most portable projectors, the picture quality here is unlikely to satisfy demanding videophiles, but for the inexperienced public it will be just right. But with the clarity and quality of the projection itself, complete order. To correct the picture, you can use the built-in autofocus, digital zoom and automatic keystone corrector. All proofreaders work simply, efficiently and friendly, without requiring any special skills. In this regard, Philips PicoPix PPX-620 fully adheres to the "plug and play" philosophy. The only complaint about this projector lies in the plane of money - compared to Chinese projectors, it turns out to be a little expensive. Even for such functionality.
