The Host Memory Buffer (HMB) feature uses PCI Express DMA (Direct Memory Access), allowing SSDs to share a portion of the DRAM in the PC system, rather than requiring the SSD to have its own DRAM.
A compact SSD drive from Samsung with an optimal storage capacity of 1 TB for most users. It weighs only 8 grams and has small dimensions (22x80 mm), which allows it to be installed in thin laptops and PCs with limited space inside the case. The drive belongs to the middle rather than the top level, like the SSD of the Samsung EVO series, and can equally well play the role of a system drive, a game library or a high-speed drive in a workstation for photo, audio and video processing.
It is produced using high-quality 96-layer 3D TLC NAND flash memory, which, together with the PCI-E 3.0 4x bus and the proprietary Samsung Pablo controller, ensures high performance of the device in any use scenario. All this allowed Samsung engineers to make the most of the PCI-E 3.0 bus bandwidth. This resulted in impressive linear write speeds of up to 3000 MB/s and read speeds of up to 3500 MB/s. In addition, high IOPS (0.5 million operations per second) significantly affect the performance of the device when processing large amounts of data, such as copying many small files at once. Thus, Samsung has created a fairly fast, compact and simple drive, which is a simplified and more affordable alternative to the EVO line.
