The wireless controller from Valve, released in 2025 as part of the new Steam hardware lineup, which also includes the updated Steam Deck, Steam Machine, and Steam Frame. This is the second generation of the company's signature controllers, and its fundamental difference from standard gamepads is the ability to play games originally designed for keyboard and mouse. This is achieved through two square 34.5 mm touch panels with haptic feedback: they replace the mouse in first-person shooters and strategies and support thousands of community-made layouts with the Steam Input system. The Valve Steam Controller gamepad features full-size asymmetrical magnetic sticks with TMR technology and capacitive touch—deviations are read without mechanical friction, eliminating drift over tim...e. The setup is completed by a 4-way directional pad, four programmable back buttons, two bumpers, two analog triggers, and a 6-axis gyro. A unique feature is the Grip Sense function: capacitive sensors on the grips enable gyro aiming when the gamepad is held, and disable it when you let go. Connectivity is implemented through the included Steam Controller Puck (a 2.4 GHz wireless receiver with a low latency of about 8 ms, which simultaneously serves as a magnetic charging pad), as well as through Bluetooth and USB-C cable. The 8.39 Wh battery provides over 35 hours of battery life. The controller is compatible with Windows PCs, macOS, Linux, as well as with the Steam Deck, Steam Machine, and Steam Frame—in VR mode, it is tracked by the IR cameras of the headset.
