Xiaomi Mi Box 3S

The modification of the popular Xiaomi Mi Box 3 set-top box with the S index stands out against the background of the “classics” with more performant hardware, increased memory volumes and a proprietary shell with the makings of artificial intelligence.

Powerful hardware

The media player is based on a 4-core Amlogic S905X processor (Cortex A53 cores with a frequency of up to 2 GHz), which is supported by 2 GB of DDR3 RAM. The total volume of built-in storage on board the model is 8 GB, but part of this space is taken up by Android 6.0 OS with the above-mentioned shell called PatchWall. An intelligent assistant integrated into the electronic “brain” of the device analyzes user preferences and selects recommended content based on them.

4K content

The set-top box is capable of playing video at a resolution of up to 3840x2160 pixels (4K format), and native support for HDR is also claimed in its characteristics. Xiaomi Mi Box 3S uses network media libraries and external USB drives as content sources, in addition, any compatible device can be connected to the media player via HDMI 2.0. The set-top box is equipped with an advanced remote control with a Mi Touch touch ring, however, it does not work via Bluetooth, but using a classic IR signal transmitter.

Peculiarities

Unfortunately, the barrel of honey was not without a big fly in the ointment: initially, the model with the S index (full designation — MDZ-19-AA) is focused purely on the Chinese market, which is why it lacks support for Google services. Out of the box, this is available in the modification of the MDZ-16-AB set-top box, which is, in fact, the international version of 3S with a minimum of differences from it.
