Affordable premium smartphone with pop-up camera
Xiaomi Redmi K20 Pro is actually a premium smartphone with powerful hardware, NFC, fast charging and a “delicious” non-flagship price tag below $400. Its main feature is a completely frameless AMOLED screen with a diagonal of 6.4". There are no bangs or teardrop-shaped cutouts here. Where is the front camera? It was made retractable, as was already the case in some Vivo and Huawei models. It extends quickly and has protection against accidental drops and damage. According to Xiaomi, the mechanism is designed for 300,000 opening and closing cycles.
Great bezel-less display
The frameless display visually looks very good, does not fade in the sun, boasts rich colours, high contrast and HDR support. According to subjective feelings, the quality here is no worse than displays in more expensive flagship models from competitors. But to say something about the appearance is difficult, frameless displays have made any reasoning on this topic meaningless. Therefore, we note only a nice back cover made of textured glass. Each colorway has its own texture: carbon on the black model, haze on the blue, etc. It looks more interesting than the gradient coloring that has become very familiar over the past year.
top filling
Redmi K20 Pro is powered by Qualcomm Snapdragon 855 top-end processor, which boasts factory overclocking, Wi-Fi version 5 support and 4K HDR video recording. It is complemented by Adreno 640 graphics, 6 GB of RAM and 64 GB of internal storage. In general, the filling is quite a flagship one, and the only thing missing here is a slot for a memory card. Although, with such a volume of memory, it is not really needed. But there is NFC and aptX HD. As far as the camera is concerned, everything is fine, but not great. Somewhere on the level of Huawei P20. Not "excellent" because the triple camera often misses at night and indoors with poor lighting.
Two unlock options
If we look for flaws, then the main problem of Redmi K20 Pro is unlocking the smartphone. The fact is that to bring it out of sleep mode, there is a simple face unlock using the front camera, and a fingerprint scanner built into the screen. In the first case, you need to wait until the front camera leaves, in the second case, not the fastest scanner will work. Anyway, you have to wait a few seconds. If you unlock your smartphone 50 times a day or use contactless payments frequently, it can be pretty annoying. Well, for this money I would like a full-fledged stereo speaker. Although, this is not so much a minus as our Wishlist.
