IEEE 1394 (iLink, FireWire)
— universal interface; also known as iLink or FireWire. Designed primarily for connecting to a computer, and its purpose differs depending on the media the camera is using. In models for memory cards, this interface can be used for many tasks and in this sense is similar to USB; on the other hand, in computer technology it is much less common, and therefore it is rarely found in video cameras. But for devices under miniDV, the presence of IEEE 1394 is almost mandatory — such a connection is traditionally used in professional technology to transfer video from cassettes to computers.
