— in this case, it implies the possibility of voice communication between the handset and the base directly. This can be useful for communication within the same building or at a short distance — for example, between colleagues, one of whom sits in an office with a base, and the second moves around the building. The phone remains open to receive incoming calls on any handset. Note that the intercom mode itself does not offer the possibility of direct communication between two handsets in walkie-talkie mode (see "Advanced"), although these features are often combined.
