In addition to the general design principles, they differ from coin models in that they often provide various types of detection to identify suspicious or irrelevant bills (in a different currency or denomination). And bill counters differ from sorters (see the relevant paragraph), in fact, by the lack of a full-fledged sorting: if an error is detected (for example, a fake bill), the device simply stops the process and issues a notification.
