Manual hoists

Manual hoist

— a hoist (of any type) is a lifting device using a chain and equipped with a built-in mechanism that reduces the force required to work (muscular effort of the user or electric motor traction). The presence of this mechanism is one of the main differences between a hoist and a winch: if in winches the force (with rare exceptions) is transmitted directly to the drum, then in hoists it is through a kind of “gear reducer”. The second difference is the use of chains (winches are equipped with cables or belts). To further increase efficiency, a movable block is also often supplied in the design or delivery of the hoist, but this moment is just not mandatory.

Different types of hoists differ just in the features of the "reducer". And manual hoists are called devices in which for work the user must pull a special chain — the so-called manual. This chain rotates the pulley, which, through the gear mechanism, transmits rotation to the pulley of the load chain. In general, hand hoists are quite simple and inexpensive, while they are effective and convenient. So, the carrying capacity in such models can reach 3 tons without a block and more than 5 tons with a block; to work with the maximum load, there is enough effort that a relatively healthy adult can provide without problems (all the more, the hand chain must be pulled down, which simplifies the task even more); and the length of the hand chain, usually, allows you to work "from the floor" even with the mechanism installed at a considerable height. Thanks to this set of advantages, this particular type of hoist is the most popular nowadays.
