Winches with belt included
Belt
— the belt is used as a traction element in certain models of winches, mainly drum winches. In general, this is a rather rare option, intended for those cases where the use of a cable is difficult or undesirable for one reason or another. For example, if the traction element contacts a foreign object during operation (the edge of a wall or a window opening, an impromptu stop, etc.), then the cable can quickly wipe a groove in such an object, while the belt is much more delicate in this regard. In addition, the belts are not prone to burrs, are much easier to wind than metal ropes, and the drum axle in belt winches can be made quite thin, which reduces weight and cost. On the other hand, with the same overall dimensions (in coiled form), such models have a smaller effective length: after all, there are not several turns of the cable per turn of the drum, but only one turn of the belt. That is why (as well as for some other reasons) this type of traction mechanism has not received distribution.
